We planned our Mount Rushmore visit as a one night stop originally, we didn’t think there was much else we would want to do in the area. Within 5 minutes of arriving and visiting the monuments we saw 10 things we wanted to do. We immediately changed our plans from one day to three and started scouting the area.

Custer State Park is massive and amazing, the wildlife loop has Buffalo, Prairie Dogs and other horned creatures! Needles Highway is jaw dropping, the Rock formations look like they are from a cartoon. The pass takes you through tight squeeze tunnels of rock.

At the Rushmore KOA the campground has everything, horseback riding, ATV trails, an old time town like area with shops, live music, and breathtaking scenery. We could spend 2 weeks here I am sure, and did not know it until we arrived. South Dakota has been really fun and I am pretty sure we will be back for a longer stay.
