After a very late night, we hit the road.  The early bird gets the worm but the 1pm departure gets the chaos, and we love a good stressful start to any trip!  From battery issues, to the fridge powering off, we had all the hiccups on day 1.  Our first 4 miles of road trip navigating as an RV husband and wife was colorful and included a nice big detour around our immediate neighborhood because we were in the right lane when we needed to turn left at our first big turn onto US hwy 19 🙂 Adding to the excitement was the fact that it is now Friday afternoon and work week items were being finished up via phone while underway.  The only happy camper on the first leg of our trip was Mackenzie, who was elated to have her car seat forward facing for the first time.  The cherry on top of day 1 was my phone completely bailing on the trip about one hour into being the navigator.  Traveling joys blog almost got re-named!

Once we hit the highway and got our groove as far as speed and getting used to the trailer now weighing a million pounds with the car and food loaded, it was much better.  Heading into Georgia, we made it to our first destination after a beautiful sunset and several hours driving after dark.  The KOA campground was a breeze and we were hooked up and cooking dinner by midnight, thank God for the one pan easy bake meals I packed.  Showers, dinner and bed by 1am completed our 12 hour trail of tears for day one.  Mackenzie was having so much fun she had been awake since 9am, never napped, and had been waving at every patron of every stop we made.  She is the true trooper of the road, at least the first day. 

After a short night sleep, we woke up to a lake filled with geese and tall pine trees all around. A pleasant morning at the camp site put us back on the road by noon. Now we are off to destination 2 near Nashville Tennessee! We are hoping to find a Verizon store along the route so I can get a new phone easily and be able to post some pictures of the trip!!
